ATELIER PS istnieje najpierw nieformalnie, a potem formalnie od 1982 roku. Założyli je dwaj architekci: MIROSŁAW POLAK i MAREK SKWARA, którzy w latach 1982-1994 pracowali jako asystenci w Zespole Urbanistyki i w Zespole Architektury Mieszkaniowej Wydziału Architektury Politechniki Śląskiej w Gliwicach. W latach 1990-95 prowadzili zajęcia z projektowania architektonicznego w Uniwersytecie w Sheffield /Wielka Brytania/ - School of Architectural Studies; byli również wyzytującymi krytykami prac dyplomowych zarówno tam, jak i w AA - Architectural Association w Londynie.
